Leech
Lake is located in Cass County and features remarkable
Walleye and Northern Pike fishing throughout the year.
The Walker Bay area is known for producing some very
productive Walleye fishing with the many submerged islands
and points as this is a favorite hangout. Traders Bay
is known for its Walleye and Jumbo Perch fishing as
the water warms in June, and the Walker Narrows is also
a popular area for the experienced Leech Lake anglers.
In the summer, the flats and the reefs are the area
in Leech Lake to fish for Walleye that are hungry and
large. North from Two Point is Portage Bay and this
is typically a productive area for Muskie fishing along
the cabbage weeds. Muskies move in and out of these
weeds, especially during the warmth of summer and into
the autumn. Pelican Island and Gull Island towards the
south end of Leech Lake are also good Muskie places
and always a smart area to fish. Northern Pike fishing
can be excellent througout the year on Leech Lake and
they can be seen in many of the more shallow backwater
bays. Largemouth Bass will also be found in these bays.
Walleye are stocked yearly in Leech Lake and they continue
to have a healthy growth rate.
