Lake
Minnetonka is called the finest fishing lake in the
Twin Cities and one of the very best fishing lakes in
all of Minnesota. Walleye fishing on Lake Minnetonka
can be excellent early in the season and you can commonly
find them off the many points, rock piles, reefs, and
along the sandy flats. Try working the points and hunt
outside the weedlines over a sandy bottom for the early
Walleyes as they will continue to bite as the water
heats up through the summer months. Smallmouth Bass
can typically be found in many of the same places as
Walleye on Lake Minnetonka. The east sides of bays and
around the many rock structures will often hold Smallmouth
Bass and they can be caught using jigs or small crankbaits
with live bait. For Northern Pike fish the weedlines
with crankbaits or spinners, and they are often found
in 10-20 feet of water in the many bays throughout the
lake. Muskie fishing on Lake Minnetonka continues to
improve as they are stocked annually and you can sometimes
find trophy sized fish along the weedlines in the bays.
It is also a good idea to fish rock piles and the points
where you are able to find Muskie and Northern Pike
trolling bucktails. Largemouth Bass fishing on Lake
Minnetonka can be great and you'll be able to discover
them in the bays around weedbeds and on main lake points
and humps.
